SIM-MODULES COM/NAV ModuleOne of the most important devices for both communication and navigation is the COMNAV-Module.

It mainly consists of two parts, one for COMmunication and one for NAVigation. Each of these parts has:

  • two displays with 5 digits each
  • one pushbutton and
  • a rotary encoder.

The left display of each part shows the "active" frequency the radio is actually tuned to (on the picture to the right it's 122,750 Mhz for the COM- and 109,100 Mhz for the NAV-part). The rotary switch is used to tune the "standby" freqency, which is shown in the right display, respectively. Once the desired frequency is dialed into the "standby"-display, the toggle pushbutton is used to swap the active and the standby-frequency.

The rotary encoder has a built-in pushbutton. If the rotary is simultanously pressed while turned, the digits before the comma are altered (in 1Mhz steps), otherwhise, the frequency is changed in 0,025Mhz steps.

Usually, there are two seperate COM and two seperate NAV radios available in every aircraft. Each part on the Sim-Modules COMNAV-Module, can be configured to either act as COM1/NAV1 or COM2/NAV2 directly on the Module (by pressing both rotary encoder pushbuttons at the same time). The setting is stored on the Modules EEPROM and will be automatically reloaded on every power-up.

Once connected to the Main Module, all values are automatically linked to the corresponding Flight Simulator variables via the Sim-Modules Control Panel. All frequencies are updated in real-time in both directions, and a special validation process is used to ensure that the values on the Sim-Modules Hardware and inside the Simulator Software are always the same.
