User Interface

The Sim-Modules Control Panel V4 (SMCP_V4) is a very lightweight tool written in C#/WPF, based on Microsoft's .NET-Framework 4.5. It offers a very intuitive and easy-to-use graphical interface with state-of-the-art XML data storage technology behind the scenes.

Using the SMCP_V4, the current status of all involved hard- and software modules can be obtained with a glance. To monitor the correct function of all internal software routines, a very powerful logging utility was developed. With just one click, all relevant log- and config-files can be sent directly to the developer team for instant online support.

Data Handling and Storage

The mapping between all the components on every hardware module (switches, rotary encoders, LED-displays...) is stored within an easy readable XML-profile. Multiple profiles can be created to support different aircraft types, to enable very flexible use of cockpit hardware. Also, all the hardware settings (like LED or display brightness) can be configured within each profile, separately for each hardware module.

Action Strings

Every piece of hardware can be mapped with one or more "Action Strings", which enables total control of virtually any Flight Simulator (or other) software. Here are some of the most important features:

  • Direct link via SimConnect/FSUIPC - offers direct read- and write access to most of the SimConnect Variables & Events, to any FSUIPC-Offset or any LINDA/LUA variable. This is the most powerful way to connect to the simulator. 
  • Simulated keyboard, mouse and virtual joystick inputs - can be used to control virtually any software (not only flight simulators!) 
  • Multiple actions for every hardware component - for switches, ON and OFF actions can be mapped separately, to easily synchronize hardware switch positions to the respective switch within the virtual cockpit. Also, for rotary encoders, every turn-direction can be mapped with a seperate action. 
  • Action String combinations - all available functions can be combined, to build powerful macros for any hardware component. 
  • Software defined rotary speeds - for every rotary encoder, a separate speed factor can be defined, which enables turning-speed depended value altering - the faster you turn, the higher the rate of change. No more finger cramps while doing a 180° heading change! 
  • 7-segment LED displays with zero delay - all values for 7-segment displays are directly linked to the respective rotary encoder within the hardware - which means, that there is absolutely no delay between turning a knob and displaying the correct value. No more weird value jumping or disturbing delays while dialing the tower frequency on short final! 
  • End-to-End synchronization - all values are constantly monitored and checked to keep them synchronized between the hardware and the flight simulator at any time.
